A contradiction Motte Thomas, an avid patron of the arts, once mysterious is now unrestrained. In his first major appearance before the public after a 15-year hiatus to raise his family, the Silent Painter reveals his creative path has been a journey of internal and meaningful reflection as well as external personal growth. Anthropomorphic, a surprising come-back and avant-garde exhibit of new work is hosted and curated by Kristin Johnson of KJFA Gallery.

In his rebirth, Thomas reveals that he is a truly gifted, innovative and academically trained painter, master print maker and draftsman as well as a visionary artist. Unlike Thomas, few artists today are formerly trained in the entire vocabulary of the arts as they do not pursue education in the sciences of art including: perception, color and optical theory as well as the psychological power of line and form. Thomas believes that talent is critical, but one needs technique to manifest that talent.

With the strength and confidence of the proud -Toros De Bravado – I have re-entered the unforgiving and brutal Bull Ring of the art world. Charging into a fully committed comeback, unbridled energy and solid direction, mostly due to the wonderful support of my loved ones and much appreciated art patrons I will present my latest works in my upcoming July 2014 Exhibition. – MT

Before beginning his formal training, Thomas discovered Georges Seurat, a Neo-Impressionist and the originator of Pointillism. Seurat clearly inspired Thomas to develop his own and very unique language of abstraction. Thomas states, Art is about communicating and intent every brush stroke must have meaning. A well-guarded secret for decades, he is committed to pioneering a movement and style that is a catalyst for future artists.

My paintings are intended to arouse an unconscious yet purposeful emotional intensity and sensuality through the use of dramatic color. My method of dimensional abstraction includes intricate patterns of overlapped colors and textures – a symphony of rhythmic brushstrokes that appear to be cross-hatched. My forms and shapes are intentionally yet intuitively placed with precision in order to create organic Anthropomorphic forms, an execution of encaustic painting that is distinctively my own.

Although I draw inspiration from a number of Modernists such as Miro, Picasso, Dali, Ernst, Pollock and others, my work is mostly influenced by my love of nature. I immerse myself in Colorado and New Mexicos National Forests, rock formations, rivers and waterfalls and indulge in all the beauty nature has to offer.

“Anthropomorphic” explores the idea that art and life often presents us with paradoxes. “Great representational paintings are also great abstractions. People are never one thing or the other, and experiences are often a mixture of joy and sadness. It makes sense that art isnt limited to one set of definitions or limitations which creates opportunities for new frontiers in technique and color that convey a universal language.”

It is why we do what we do to amplify the experiences people seek through art — art that becomes part of ones daily life. Live and Breathe Art: We draw no line between form and function. When we work, beauty and purpose are one. We believe in the power of detail, in the appeal of a system, in the magic of texture, and in the stories we can tell. Our work and the work we represent will always stand proud on a shelf, a wall in a life or in a museum. When we think human and live art, We craft experiences and Defy Gravity: We look at the world not as it is, but as it could be. We ask the questions no else asks so we can fulfill the potential and dreams for all of those involved with us. We look for and find the art and artists that no one else looks for or could find on their own. This is how we stand apart. Great things happen when were ahead of the pack and when we see things through a different window. Our window is one of belief in what could be and one that transcends our present reality.
